UNDERSTANDING YOUR TRUE ASSETS –
Part 2
Like I said in the first part of
this series, we all do not have access to some things in life on an equal basis.
For example, money, education etc. this may be due to our family placement,
race, or nationality. However, there are about six things that God has freely
given to us all, irrespective of our color, race, nationality or class. And
I’ve come to discover that these are the most important things in life. I have
read biographies of men and women who were born into absolute poverty and mess.
But who died as world changers. You see, the problem is not where or how or
when you were born. The problem is your failure to realize the great abilities
that lies in you.
I listed those six assets in the
first part. Now, I will begin to explain them to you one by one.
#1 LIFE
The first greatest asset that God
has given to mankind is life. God has made available to us all life. We all
have life for free. Whether you are from America or Congo, whether you are Bill
Gate or Obotunde Ijimere, whether you are learned with all the academic degrees
in the world or you are a stark illiterate, we all have access to only one
life. Thank God that life is not what could be bought with money. If it were
so, the Americans and the Europeans would not have allowed it to reach Nigeria. And if
by chance a few get to Nigeria,
the likes of Dangote, Otedola, etc would have bought it up. But life is free.
Again, God made only one life
available to us all, irrespective of the class, caste, personality, affluence
etc. All of us could only live once. This however, calls for wisdom. If all I
have is just one chance to live, shouldn’t that give me great concern over how
and for what I live it. What distinguishes the successful from the failure, the
poor from the rich, those making impacts from those who don’t make any impact,
is not that one group have two lives while the other have one life. No! The difference
is in how they each choose to live and for what they each choose to live the
one life they have.
Living is a privilege. But it
will surprise you to see how many of us abuse that privilege. Doing all the
wrong things and living for all the wrong reasons. A careful study of the lives
of great men will tell you the reason why your life has been going down wrong. Dr.
David Oyedepo once said in one of his messages that he often sleeps at around 4
am and he’s usually up by 6 am. I think I’ve read the same thing about Bill
Gates before. In fact, Bill Gates once said in an interview that he doesn’t
have time for television. Interesting!
And these are the major things
that many of us spend our lives doing. We eat, sleep, watch television, chat on
2go, browse on the Facebook, commenting on useless pictures and unedifying
status. We just love leisure. Yet, we complain about how our lives turn out.
The truth is “You cannot live your life wrongly and hope or pray that it turns
out rightly.” If the past generations had chosen to live their one lives this
way, where would we have gotten our electricity, telephone, automobiles,
aircrafts, just to mention a few. Now think, what will be the effects of our
lackadaisical lifestyle on the next generations?
It is not God’s fault how your
life turns out. He designed it and gave it to you for free. But how you choose
to live it is your choice. I love the way Fredrick K. C. Price put it. He said,
“If you fail, it is your fault and if you succeed, it is your fault.”
If you could kick your enemy in
the ass, I bet you will never be able to sit down for weeks. You are you greatest
enemy. Most of us go about grumbling and complaining about what is happening to
us, blaming every thing around from witches in the village to government’s inefficiency.
However, if you could sit down and do a thorough reflection, you will realize that,
your choice of life style has been the major threat to your existence. If you
have only one life to live, then shouldn’t you make it count?
All you have is one chance to
live. Therefore, decide today to make your life count for something. You can
become great. You can become a blessing to your generation and to the world.
You can create a lasting impact on the world. You can change the world and make
it better than you met it. However, all you have is one chance to do it. Once
you die, it is over for ever.
